ILR — How to Apply for the Indefinite Leave to Remain — Life in UK Test

If you are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, you are now required to demonstrate that you have sufficient knowledge of life in the UK and of the English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic language.

In order to meet this requirement, you must successfully pass the 'Life in the UK' test. This is a multiple choice test, which you can sit at various test centres.

You will only be exempt from this requirement under the following circumstances:

• You are aged under 18 or over 65;
  
  
• You are suffering from a long term illness or disability which severely restricts your mobility and ability to attend language classes;
  
  
• You have a mental impairment which means that you are unable to learn another language.
