UK Ancestry Visas —  Are You Eligible for an Ancestral Visa?

 

Requirements

These are available for a person who:

  • is a Commonwealth citizen; and
     
  • is aged 17 or over; and
     
  • can prove a relationship by blood or recognised adoption with a grandparent born in the United Kingdom and Islands; and
     
  • is able to work and intends to take or seek employment in the United Kingdom; and
     
  • has obtained entry clearance from the British Embassy or High Commission in their home country
     

Settlement

The ancestral visa leads to settlement after five years. There are no restrictions on employment and the examination of the applicant's ability to maintain him or herself is relatively limited, providing they can do so by some means that includes some sort of employment. It is not strictly necessary to show employment when applying for extensions, although it would certainly be helpful to be able to do so.
